Polar Fox in Island

The best things about Iceland

When thinking about becoming an expat in Scandinavia, Iceland certainly comes up a lot. It really is a great country and that is what we are going to focus on in this article. Read on if you want to know everything great about Iceland!

Nature – Number one Reason to Visit

This is without a doubt one of the biggest reasons for why you should consider settling down in Iceland. It has some of the greatest and most breath-taking nature on the planet. Massive cliffs that gives way to the ocean, wonderful volcanoes to explore and geyser like nothing you have ever seen before. If you love being out in nature and exploring, Iceland is the place for you.

The Climate – Mild and Humid

Iceland may be far north, but the climate is mild. The winters are not overly cold, and the summers are really nice. Also, if you really hate the winters, they have hot springs galore. Finding hot springs to warm up in is easy and it is an amazing experience. So amazing, we will dedicate our next point to them.

The Hot Springs – Good for Your Health

Imagine this scene. You lay on your back in a warm pool. You are outside and snow is falling from the sky. All around you the ground is white from snow. You see your breath, yet you do not feel cold. That is the hot springs for you. We tried our best to explain it but the only way to really know what it feels like is to try it out for yourself. We promise that you will not regret it.

It is an Island

Now this can be both good and bad depending on how you see it. Obviously, it is very difficult to get here. You either have to fly or take a boat. On the other hand, it can be a great advantage. For example, Iceland is really safe, and the crime rate is extremely low. Say you are a thief.

The last place you want to steal something is on an island with no easy escape. Also, Iceland lays in the middle of the Atlantic. This means that both Europe and America are a short flight away. If you want to go home to visit family, you can do so. If you want to explore Europe that is no problem either. Iceland is a great location for all you expat who can not decide between Europa and America since it is an in between place.

Visiting is Easy – if you are from Schengen

Here comes a great thing about Europe and the EU. You can work in any country of your choosing within the agreement. Want to move to Iceland? No problem as long as you are a member of a country in Schengen. If you come from one of these countries, moving to Iceland as an expat could not be easier.

What about all of you who are not from Schengen? If you want to stay for more than 90 days, you will probably require a visa. If you want to stay longer you will have to apply for a Visa.  It is recommended you do this at least 3 weeks before you need it.

Luckily, it is not all that difficult to be approved for your visa. If you can prove that you are able to sustain yourself financially, you will probably be fine. If you want more information about getting a visa for Iceland, check out this link. It will teach you more than we ever could.

We hope that this article helped you decide in which country to begin your expat journey. Always remember, if you do not like it, you can always move. So why not give it a try?
